BREAKING: Sophomore Braxton Key To Transfer From Alabama

Alabama Men's Basketball

Alabama sophomore forward Braxton Key has been granted a release from the program and will transfer, according to a release from the team. Key started 47 games during his two seasons in Tuscaloosa.

“This was not an easy decision to make,” Key said in a statement released by UA. “I’ve enjoyed my two seasons at the University of Alabama. I want to thank the coaches, support staff and my teammates for helping me get better each and every day. I especially would like to thank all the fans for their support over the past two years.”

In his 60 games across two seasons, Key averaged 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2017 after leading the Crimson Tide in points and finishing second on the team in rebounds and assists.

Key had to sit out the first 10 games of the 2017-18 season due to a knee injury he got just before the team’s exhibition game in November. He finished the season fifth on the team in scoring (7.0 ppg) and third on the team in rebounding (5.3 rpg).

“I met with Braxton on Thursday and had a good talk with him,” head coach Avery Johnson said. “Braxton certainly has a bright future, but he has to do what’s best for him. We wish him nothing but the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
