Avery Johnson Updates Status of Donta Hall

Alabama Men's Basketball

With two days until Alabama’s NCAA Tournament opener, Donta Hall still appears to be dealing with the after effects of a concussion that he suffered against Auburn.

“Right now, he’s day-to-day. He wasn’t able to participate in any parts of practice yesterday but he did ride the bike a little bit, which was a good sign,” head coach Avery Johnson said about Hall on Tuesday. “I think I’ll have a much better handle after today. I’ll know a lot more about his status when we get on the plane to go to Pittsburgh.”

Hall is the second leading scorer on the Crimson Tide, averaging 10.9 points per game. He is shooting 72 percent from the field. That percentage would be second in the country if he averaged 0.5 more field goals made per game.

His efficiency was certainly missed against Kentucky and his absence could open a big hole in this team on Thursday. Hall leads the team with 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. Hall’s teammates are confident he will be available but are ready to go either way.

“As far as I’ve seen, I feel like he’s going to play,” freshman guard John Petty said. “But if he doesn’t, we still have to come out and try to play our best game and do whatever it takes for us to get a W.”

Dazon Ingram, who came to Tuscaloosa with Hall in 2016, was a little more confident in the junior center’s return.

“Oh, Donta is going. He’s definitely going,” Ingram said. “If he can’t play, we’re going to need Giddens, Galin and Reese to step up.”

We will continue to have updates on Donta Hall’s status. Alabama will tip off against Virginia Tech in Pittsburgh at approximately 8:20 CT on Thursday. The game will be televised by TNT.
