Alabama To Play in 2018 Charleston Classic

Alabama Men's Basketball

The Alabama men’s basketball team has been named one of the eight teams invited to the 2018 Charleston Classic next fall. The Crimson Tide will be joined by two teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25 and three teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2017.

The familiar face in the group will be Wichita State. The Shockers are currently ranked 7th in the country by the Associated Press. Alabama has played Wichita State five times since 2010, winning twice. The two teams have split the all-time series with four wins apiece.

The Crimson Tide defeated the Shockers in Avery Johnson’s first season with Alabama. Wichita State was ranked 20th at the time and Alabama won 64-60 at the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando.

Purdue will also be in the 2018 Classic. The Boilermakers are currently ranked 20th in the AP Poll and have a top-40 recruiting class coming in next season. Alabama is 3-5 all-time against Purdue but won the last meeting in 2011.

Virginia Tech will be representing the ACC in the tournament. The Hokies have won 20 games in each of the last two seasons under head coach Buzz Williams. Alabama is 9-4 against Virginia Tech but the two teams have not met since 1989.

Those four teams will also be joined by Appalachian State, Ball State, Davidson, Northeastern. The tournament is scheduled to be played from November 15th to November 18th of 2018.
